Box Lantern

Image
With Halloween just around the corner, I decided to make a lantern that you can put outside for Halloween! I chose not do a spooky design, but you can. This project doesn't need a lot of materials, so it is really easy to make. I was going to use a can, but my can was too strong to poke a hole through. Materials: - a cardboard box that isn't too big (mine is 3" by 3" by 10") - a nail (tacks don't poke holes that are wide enough) - a battery-operated candle 1. Pick your box. 2. Draw your design onto the box. I have found that if you are going to write letters, make sure you write them big. 3. Poke holes through the box while following the design you have drawn. 4. Voila! You're done! Make sure that you light your lantern when it is really dark outside. Painting the box black might help if you want to light you lantern earlier. - Shruti

Geometric Bowl

This project wasn't my own idea. I was looking around and I saw this cool do-it-yourself project that you can do with paper! Materials:  - paper printed with this  template - scissors - decorations (washi tape, glitter, etc.) 1. Download paper with the template. I decided to use sturdy paper for this. It made the end product much less likely to rip. 2. Cut out the border of the whole shape and cut on the dotted lines. 3. With the numbers facing you, fold the triangles with the numbers away from you. 4. Glue the triangle with number and stick it on the back of triangle that was cut along the dotted line. This may be confusing, so try positioning the triangles before you glue them on. 5. Continue doing this for all of the triangles with numbers. 6.  You are all set! Personally, I don't like things just plain white, so I added some spark to it by using tape and glitter.

Crayon Art

I used to love using crayons when I was little. I used to scribble everywhere! As I got older, I shifted towards colored pencils and soon my crayons were all stuck in some box that I never opened until now. Most of my crayons were broken in half (Don't you love that satisfying snap of a crayon? My 5-year-old self certainly did.), so I decided to snap all of them to make the crayons even. Materials: - 27 crayons (it doesn't matter if they're broken or not) - a blow dryer - lots of newspaper - a canvas (8 inches by 10 inches) - a hot glue gun 1. Peel the crayons. Yes, I know. It's a long and boring process, but it's worth it for the end product. An easy way to do this is by letting the crayons soak in a bowl of water for 5 minutes. The crayons are usually super easy to peel off after that . 2.  Arrange and hot glue the crayons in rainbow order. 3. Find some silhouettes online, print them, and glue them onto the canvas. I printed out...
