Among the Clouds: 45º58’35’’N, 7º39’30’’E

Among the Clouds: 45º58’35’’N, 7º39’30’’E Lighter than the air, Free from all, Breathless beneath the blue sky, Among the clouds. Deep inhale, Clothes flapping in the wind, The crunch of the snow, Beneath the boots. Gazing far, Into the land, Infused with noise, And countless thoughts. Taking time, The hum of the earth, Grounded but free, On the cap of the peak. Thoughts lingering like flies, And disappearing just as swiftly, No need to think, Among the clouds.  - Shruti

Save the Earth!

Image
Recently, the thought of climate change has been bugging me. Climate change is real, and we don't take care of our environment because the future of the human race is affected. Melting ice caps, ocean acidification, pollution, it all sounds intimidating. How can we save the earth? Luckily, we are not at the point where we are too late to help. To help the Earth decrease or stop climate change: 1. Plant a tree. Trees absorb the carbon dioxide we release that causes global warming. 2. Take a walk or ride a bike instead of using a car. Save the world from car emissions! 3. Try using less electricity. That too, impacts the earth. Help the world! If everyone does these three steps, we can put an end to climate change. - Shruti Picture Links:  https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&ved=0ahUKEwjFu9qQwLnUAhWMFj4KHQ4HBuUQjxwIAw&url=https%3A%2F%2Fpowertime.co.za%2Fonline%2Fsavings-tips-lightin...

What Will I Remember From Middle School Five Years From Now

Image
This will be my last blog post for a while, but I might post randomly over the summer. For my last assignment of middle school, I have to write about what I will remember about middle school five years from now. There are so many things that I will remember and cherish from the middle school, but these are the top four, not in any specific order. 1.  Camp Kieve In 6th Grade our whole grade went to camp Kieve for four days. Middle school was new for us, so the camp eased our transition. Everyone bonded together and we all had so much fun!                                                                                                                             ...

Toilet Paper Roll Lantern

Image
Hi! Today I used a toilet paper roll to create a cute lantern. It was really simple, and it took about 10 minutes. Materials: - paint - candle - toilet paper roll - paintbrush 1. Cut slits into one side of the roll.   2. Paint beginning from the bottom to the top (the frills). I used sunset colors because I thought it would fit with the candle. 3. Open up the frills and place a candle in the toilet paper roll. - Shruti

Jeans to Shorts

Image
It's almost summer! Yay!!!! No school, fun at beaches, and ice cream!!! I had an old pair of jeans, and since it's almost summer, I decided to turn them into shorts. Materials: - scissors - chalk - jeans 1. Mark with chalk where you want to cut your jeans on one side of your jeans. Keep in mind that you are going to roll them up a little. 2. Cut the leg where you marked it, and fold the jeans. 3. Mark the other leg according to you cut on the previous leg, and the leg. 4. Roll up the bottom of the shorts, use fabric glue to keep them in place, and you are set!

Water Bottle Plant Pot

Image
I was going to use a water bottle to make cherry blossom prints, but a soda bottle works better for that. Instead I tried to reuse a Dasani Water bottle. I had taken pictures to go with this post, but all of them were deleted when I last checked. It would be a challenge for any other DIY project, but I think I can do it because this project is super simple. Use the final product as a reference. Materials: - an empty plastic water bottle - paint - plant 1. Cut 1/3 of the bottle from the cap down. We will be using the bottom 2/3. 2. Cut the bunny ears out of the remaining bottle. 3. Paint the whole remaining bottle white. 4. I added a cute smile and painted the inside of the ears pink. 5.  Then I planted a flower in the pot! This is a great way to reuse plastic bottles and bring some greenery indoors. - Shruti

T-shirt Sleeve Bracelet

My last post was about upycling a t-shirt. But what about the sleeves? I found a way to reuse them as well! You can find the video  here . Materials: - t-shirt sleeve - scissors - tape - hot glue 1. Cut the sleeve into 5 pieces. 2. Tie a knot with all of the pieces and tape them down. 3.  Take the left-most piece and put it over 2nd left-most piece. 4.  Take the center piece and put it over the 2nd left-most piece 5. Take the right-most piece and put it over the 2nd right-most piece.  6. Take the center piece and put it over the 2nd right-most piece.  7. Repeat this until you have the length you want.  8. Glue the ends together and voila! A cool t-shirt bracelet!! - Shruti
