California Vacation
Usually, my idea of a perfect vacation is staying at home bundled up in a cozy blanket while sipping hot cocoa and watching a movie with my friends or family. This vacation however, my family went to California. We left Portland International Jetport and flew to Dulles International Airport in Washington D.C.. From there we flew to San Francisco International Airport. After staying at my uncle's new house for a few days, we booked seats on a 4-day tour bus.
The first day we drove to Los Angeles where I saw the Hollywood sign and the Hollywood Walk of Fame (the stars). Although I don't believe her, my cousin claims to have seen "Diggy" from the show Liv and Maddie.
On the second day, we drove to Death Valley. On the way there, we saw the world's largest thermometer in memory of Death Valley being having the record of the highest temperature. There, we visited Badwater Basin. At 282.2 feet below sea level, Badwater Basin is the lowest point in the western hemisphere that isn't covered by water. From Death Valley we drove to Las Vegas where we spent the night.

The next day we drove out the the south rim of the Grand Canyon. It was an exquisite sight that took my breath away. The canyon went on for hundreds of miles and looked even better because the canyon was sprinkled with a little bit of snow. We drove back to Vegas and walked around the Strip, a street with all of the most famous casinos and hotels in Vegas. My brother played in a poker tournament in a pyramid-shaped casino/hotel called the Luxor and won! The pyramid casino/hotel has a light beam shooting out from its top that can be seen from space. It's entrance is a replica of the Great Sphinx.

At last, we had to return to San Francisco. The journey back was long (8 hours) but that gave me lots of to nap, read, and relax.
The day after we returned, we drove to Gilroy, CA, the garlic capital of the world. They sold garlic ice cream and garlic fries. I did not have enough time to try the garlic ice cream, but I got to try the garlic fries. Boy, were they delicious!! The next day we drove around San Francisco. We saw the Golden Gate Bridge and also drove down the Crookedest Street. Crookedest Street, also known as Lombard Street, is a curvy, winding man made street that goes down one of the many hills in San Francisco.

Everyone had plenty of fun, but vacation was over and it was time to go home. The journey back was long and tiring, but it felt great to be back home.
