Crayon Art
Materials:
- 27 crayons (it doesn't matter if they're broken or not)
- a blow dryer
- lots of newspaper
- a canvas (8 inches by 10 inches)
- a hot glue gun
1. Peel the crayons. Yes, I know. It's a long and boring process, but it's worth it for the end product. An easy way to do this is by letting the crayons soak in a bowl of water for 5 minutes. The crayons are usually super easy to peel off after that.
2. Arrange and hot glue the crayons in rainbow order.
3. Find some silhouettes online, print them, and glue them onto the canvas. I printed out an elephant chain with the one in the front holding an umbrella. Be creative!! :)
4. Stand the canvas up against a wall with newspaper against it. Make sure that there is newspaper, because the crayon wax goes everywhere when it is melted.
5. Melt the crayons with the blow dryer facing downwards. I was using an umbrella in my art piece, so I aligned a cup with the umbrella to create an effect of the colors rolling off the umbrella.
Your finished!!
I made this one before I posted! ----->
Thanks!!

This looks like a really cool project! The end result was very colorful and had an awesome pattern that looked a lot like rain. You could probably melt the crayons more efficiently using a heat gun, but the paper might not fare as well.
ReplyDeleteYeah, heat guns are way more precise, but I didn't have one, so I decided to use a hair dryer. Thanks, Matthew!
ReplyDeleteThis is SO cool! Once again, I love your blog. I tried this once but without the silhouettes, I want to do it again with them! Awesome job.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, the result is so gorgeous!!! I should probably try this at some point if I can find any old crayons.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool and looks like great fun! Loved the colors!
