Sonobe Origami Cube
Origami isn't my greatest skill, but I decided to giver it a try today. I made a sonobe origami cube that can also be used as a lantern. If you use normal paper, it will look nice as a decoration. Baking paper will make it work as a lantern. I didn't have any colored paper, so I used white printer paper.
Materials:
- 24 pieces of square paper (normal or baking) (I used nine centimeters by nine centimeters)
We will be making 24 of these, so I will show you how to make only one.
1. Fold the paper in half.
2. Fold the edges towards the middle, so that once unraveled, the paper is divided into four sections.
3. With the sections horizontal to you, fold the left corner just a little below the first crease.
4. Fold the folded corner up to the first crease.
5. Fold the first section up to over lap the second section.
6. Rotate the paper 180º
7. Repeat Steps 3-5.
8. Take the right corner and fold it up. Then tuck it under the flap.
9. Rotate 180º and repeat step 8.
10. Flip over the module and fold one point up.
11. Your first module is done! Now go ahead and make 24 of them! Yes, it is tedious work, but the end result is amazing!
12. Now, this next part is sort of like a puzzle. You have to fit the modules together in groups of three. Use your brain!!
13. Now, you have to fit all of the groups of three together to make a cube!
14. Voila! Your awesome cube is done! If you want to put a fake candle inside of it, remove four module from center and you can set you candle in there.
